FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT YEAR C

INTRODUCTION:

Today is the fourth Sunday of Advent. The last Sunday before Christmas. The time of waiting is nearing its end. But we still wish to understand more deeply in what way we should wait and in what spirit we should live our Advent.

We find the answer in Mary. She waited by giving help to her relative, Elizabeth. She did not wait passively or in a selfish way. She was not concerned about herself. She hurried to the hill country and for three months helped in Elizabeth’s household. What a model of active waiting.

GOSPEL: LUKE 3: 39-45

Mary set out and travelled to the hill country in haste
to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leapt in her womb,
and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leapt for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”

VACCINE DRIVE @RPP

The Nurses Guild have partnered with the Department of Health and will be administering the Vaccine against Covid this Sunday 19/12 after Mass, for those who are interested in receiving the vaccine.

Please bring your I.D document and if you have already received your first dose bring your vaccination card as well.

St Jude Parishioners are also invited to join.

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT YEAR C

INTRODUCTION:

There will be honesty in the land; there will be integrity in the land. What a daring promise this sounds to us, because in reality, it is quite different. When listening to people talking we hear them say, there is no honesty, you are cheated everywhere, you cannot trust anyone. He will practice honesty and integrity. This is the powerful message of today. You will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Creation will be renewed, is the message of Advent.

GOSPEL: LUKE 21: 25-28 / 34-36

Jesus said to his disciples: “There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand. “Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise like a trap. For that day will assault everyone who lives on the face of the earth. Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man.”

33^rd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B

INTRODUCTION:

If you have a really good friend, you will be anxious to ensure that your friendship lasts forever. If you truly love your wife or husband, you would want your bond of love to last forever. Some of these thoughts come into our minds in these last few Sundays of the church year. When we look to the future we think about the end of the world and we read about frightening events. This is the time, to which we, as Christians look forward with anxiety, saying: if only our friendship with Christ will last… never mind what else happens. If only our union with Christ lasts forever

GOSPEL: MARK 13: 24-32

Jesus said to his disciples: “In those days after that tribulation the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. “And then they will see ‘the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory, and then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the end of the sky. “Learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see these things happening, know that he is near, at the gates. Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. “But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION–NEXT WEEKEND 21/11/2021

SOLEMNITY OF ALL SAINTS

INTRODUCTION:

Today we celebrate the feast day of All Saints. It is a great feast for our whole Christian community. We remember with joy the countless multitudes of men and women, boys and girls who have gone before us to God. In our celebration today, the Lord tells us of what kind of person a saint is and what people must do to become saints. There are the humble ones, the poor, the gentle, those who suffer, those who make peace, those with a pure heart and those that suffered because they stood up against evil and injustice.

GOSPEL: MATTHEW 5: 1 – 12

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him.  He began to teach them, saying: 

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek,

for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.”

MISSION SUNDAY

PARISH RETREAT

Our Parish retreat will be taking place from the 26^th–28^th November; three priests from different parishes have been invited to assist with  confession.

Why Small Christian Communities?

Small Christian Communities (SCC) is a way of being church to each other, not just on Sunday but every day. This is not a new concept: early Christians met in small groups in each other’s homes to share faith and break bread.

What makes a Small Christian Community different from small groups?

Unlike a small group, Small Christian Communities usually emphasize social change by the power of Christ’s gospel. SCC is focused on “Christians coming together for prayer, Scripture reading, catechesis and discussion on human and ecclesial problems with a view to a common commitment. These communities are a sign of vitality within the Church, an instrument of formation and evangelization, and a solid starting point for a new society based on ‘civilization of love.'” 
Life in a SCC is simply our baptismal brotherhood and sisterhood lived out practically with a few people. Together, we share God’s word, the Eucharist, prayer, our possessions, our gifts, time and meals. In an SCC, we share daily life.

Each group incorporates the elements of 

1. Prayer
2. Faith sharing
3. Mutual support 
4. Learning, studying and
5. Mission

SCC – it’s usually a group of 5-8 families. Groups generally meet twice a month in each other’s homes
