TWENTY SECOND SUNDAY OF THE YEAR CYCLE C

INTRODUCTION:

Not one of us lives entirely alone. We live in a “When we come to Church on Sunday”, we dress well. We put on our best clothes. This is a good custom, but it is not important in the eyes of God. God does not look at our clothes. In fact, God is not pleased if we try to appear higher or greater than others. On the contrary, he loves the humble.

GOSPEL – Luke 14: 1. 7 – 14

On a Sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully. He told a parable to those who had been invited, noticing how they were choosing the places of honour at the table. “When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not recline at table in the place of honour. A more distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him, and the host who invited both of you may approach you and say, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then you would proceed with embarrassment to take the lowest place. Rather, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place so that when the host comes to you he may say, ‘My friend, move up to a higher position.’ Then you will enjoy the esteem of your companions at the table. For every one who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” Then he said to the host who invited him, “When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbours, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame and the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.

FIFTEENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR CYCLE C

INTRODUCTION:

Not one of us lives entirely alone. We live in a community with others, and we meet people wherever we go. Some of those whom we meet are in need, and we ask ourselves whether we should go out of our way to help them or just pass them by. Jesus shows us what we should do as he gave us the answer in the parable of the traveller from the foreign country of Samaria, who showed mercy although he was a stranger.

GOSPEL – LUKE 10: 25 – 37

There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test Jesus and said, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?” He said in reply, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbour as yourself.” He replied to him, “You have answered correctly;
do this and you will live.” But because he wished to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbour?” Jesus replied, “A man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho. They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead. A priest happened to be going down that road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. Likewise, a Levite came to the place, and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. But a Samaritan traveller who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight. He approached the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them. Then he lifted him up on his own animal, took him to an inn, and cared for him. The next day he took out two silver coins
and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction, ‘Take care of him. If you spend more than what I have given you, I shall repay you on my way back.’ Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbour to the robbers’ victim?” He answered, “The one who treated him with mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

This collection represents an offering whose value is not practical but highly symbolic. The size of the offering is not important, no matter how small, it has a great meaning.
It represents a sign of communion with the Pope. For this reason, Peter’s Pence is also the manifestation of a sense of belonging to the church and of love for her visible head.
A second collection will be held during the month of July.

FOURTEENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR CYCLE C

INTRODUCTION:

Our congregation this morning consists of very different kinds of people: young and old, women and men, workers and students. But there is still something we all have in common: we are all Christians and we are all sent to bring the peace of God to others. Today we read how the lord sent out not only the twelve disciples but a further seventy-two. He sent them out to every village and house, to bring people his peace.

GOSPEL – LUKE 10: 1 – 12, 17 – 20 

At that time the Lord appointed seventy-two others
whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them,
“The harvest is abundant but the labourers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest to send out labourers for his harvest. Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves. Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals; and greet no one along the way. Into whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this household.’ If a peaceful person lives there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you, for the labourer deserves his payment. Do not move about from one house to another. Whatever town you enter and they welcome you, eat what is set before you, cure the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God is at hand for you.’ Whatever town you enter and they do not receive you, go out into the streets and say, ‘The dust of your town that clings to our feet, even that we shake off against you.’ Yet know this: the kingdom of God is at hand. I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom on that day than for that town.”
The seventy-two returned rejoicing, and said,
“Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name.” Jesus said, “I have observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky. Behold, I have given you the power to ‘tread upon serpents and scorpions
and upon the full force of the enemy and nothing will harm you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

LADYSMITH TRINITY SUNDAY

INTRODUCTION:

Today we celebrate the feast of the Most Holy Trinity: God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We celebrate this feast because now, the time of Easter is over and we want to acknowledge, that Easter was not the work of the Son alone; it was the loving action of all three: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The trinity is not just connected with our lives, it is our life. The Father is not just any Father but our Father. The Son not any Son, but Son with us, of the same Father; and the Spirit is not just any spirit, but the spirit living in us.

GOSPEL – JOHN 16: 12 – 15 

Jesus said to his disciples: “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason, I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.”

After Mass: Please sanitize your seat. sanitiser and paper towels are available in the front of the Church.

Under the Covid rules (level1) only temperatures will be checked of people attending Mass.  It will not be necessary to fill in the form.

WHILST FR MAREK IS ON HOLIDAY

Mass will be said by visiting priests on Saturdays & Sundays.

Next weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) and the Bishop will say Mass. The will be only one Mass at RPP at 9am.

On some of the weekdays, the Eucharist Ministers will do a communion service
Fr Arendze will arrive on the 22nd of June and he will stay with us until Fr Marek returns.

On the 16^th of June, there will be Deanery Youth Mass at RPP @ 8 am.  Mass will be said by Fr Msizi Msimango from Ezakheni.

Transport will be available at St Jude to RPP , for all youth, who will be attending  Mass.

Fifth Sunday of Easter Cycle C

INTRODUCTION:

We all long for a beautiful home and a pleasant neighbourhood, where people help one another, respect one another and have time for one another. We long for a group of people where we are not afraid of others but can trust everyone. It is not only you and I who want such good relationships between people. God wants it. In the Gospel today, Christ says: ‘I give you a new commandment: Love one another. Just as I have loved you.’

GOSPEL – JOHN 13: 31-35

When Judas had left them, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and God will glorify him at once. My children, I will be with you only a little while longer.  I give you a new commandment: love one another.  As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another.”

Fr Angelicus Mchunu and all deanery sodality members will be with us. Mass will be at 9 am at Regina Pacis and no Mass at St Jude.
