SOLEMNITY OF THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

INTRODUCTION:

Today we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi. This is a Latin word meaning: Body of Christ. We celebrate this feast to appreciate more deeply the Body and Blood of Christ whom we receive at Holy Mass. In our celebration today we are reminded that we cannot live without the Eucharist: without eating his body and drinking his blood.

GOSPEL: JOHN 6: 51 – 58

Jesus said to the Jewish crowds: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. for my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.

PRAYING OF THE ROSARY BEFORE MASS

The praying of the Rosary before Mass on Sundays will now start at 7:00 am until 7:30 am followed by hymn practice for Mass.
There will be ten minutes of silence before Mass.

Fr Marek would like to thank everyone for contributing towards his holiday funds. He will be leaving on 14 June and will be back in the middle of July. While he is away, Fr Jimmy will be with us in the Parish.

YOUNG ADULTS

On 16 June 2023 – there will be Games Day for the youth finishing off with a movie in the hall @RPP.
Entry fee is R20.00. Food included. Time 10am to 4pm. All kids 10 years and older may attend.

SEMINARIANS’ FUND

The collection for the 1st quarter of 2023 was RPP R3920 & St Jude R880, a total of R4 800. We sent R2400 to the Diocese & the balance of R2400 is being carried forward to the Deanery Mass Collection due in August where, we need to contribute a minimum of R10000.

The 2nd quarter contribution of R2400 is due on 30 June 2023.

PENTECOST SUNDAY

INTRODUCTION:

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Blessed Trinity. We proclaim our faith: there is only one God, but in God, there is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The Feast of the Blessed Trinity helps us to think of God in the right way: God is not an old man with a long beard, sitting on a throne and feeling lonely. Rather this Feast tells us that God is a community. Life, joy and mutual love are vibrating in God. God, son and Love. That is the Blessed trinity. 

GOSPEL: JOHN 3: 16 -18

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

PENTECOST SUNDAY

INTRODUCTION:

Happy birthday to the Catholic Church! Happy birthday to you, who are the body of the Church! The word Pentecost means “50th day.” Fifty days after Easter Sunday, we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and their followers, and the beginning of their Earthly ministry to make disciples of all nations.

GOSPEL: JOHN 20: 19-23

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”

SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

INTRODUCTION:

In the early church, the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation were given together during Easter. Why? Baptism and Confirmation belong together as Easter and Pentecost belong together. Therefore it became customary in the early church to lay hands on the newly baptized and to ask for the power of the Holy Spirit to come down upon them. It is through the Holy Spirit that Jesus lives in us and us in him. In today’s Gospel reading Jesus tells us, “On that day you will understand that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you.”

GOSPEL: JOHN 14: 15 – 21

Jesus said to his disciples: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept because it neither sees nor knows him. But you know him, because he remains with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me because I live and you will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”

NOVENA OF THE HOLY SPIRT

Will start on Friday 19 May at Regina Pacis @ 17:30. We will pray the novena every day from 17:30 until the Day of the Pentecost. On Saturdays, the novena will be at @17:00 before Mass. and on Sunday at @17:30.
NB There will be no Mass at St Jude on Friday the 19th of May.

FR MAREK HOLIDAY

There will be a second collection for the next two weekends for Fr Marek’s Holiday as he will going to visit his family in June, please give generously.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

INTRODUCTION:

When we prepare ourselves for a long journey, we may be worried and ask ourselves: Shall I arrive safely? Accidents can happen on the road. Will there be someone at the other end where I can stay? In this situation of doubt and distress we hear the Lord’s message today: “Do not let your heart be troubled. Trust in me. I am the way.”

GOSPEL: JOHN 14: 1-12

Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.
In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.
If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. Where I am going you know the way.” Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said to him, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.
