FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER (YEAR B)

INTRODUCTION:

In the past chiefs and kings were called ‘shepherds’ of their people. They expected to keep their people together and even to die for them in battle. Today, Jesus calls himself the ‘Good Shepherd’. We have come here to church because we have heard his call. He wants to gather us around him and keep us together.

GOSPEL: JOHN 10: 11-18

Jesus said: “I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. A hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters them. This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd. This is why the Father loves me because I lay down my life in order to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again. This command I have received from my Father.”

REGINA CAELI (O QUEEN OF HEAVEN)

This is an antiphon addressed to the Blessed Virgin Mary that is used during the Easter season (Eastertide) from Easter Sunday until Pentecost. Traditionally said or sung after night prayer, immediately before going to sleep in place of the Angelus. We will recite this after the Blessing, before the final Hymn.

DEANERY MASS SEMINARIAN’S COLLECTION

Each parish is expected to contribute to the Deanery Collection for Seminarians. The target for Regina Pacis & St Jude combined is R15000, so far only R4607 has been collected. This contribution is over and above the quarterly parish contribution of R2400.
Private donations are more than welcome, so we can meet the target.

Noon Fundraising
There will be Mass on Saturday 20/04 at RPP for the elderly & those who won’t be able to attend on Sunday.
