15th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME.
YEAR A

INTRODUCTION:

Nobody forced us to come to church today. We freely accepted the invitation of God. The inviting Word of God was sown into us like a small, seemingly powerless seed. The germination of the seed within us depends on our acceptance of the word. The fact that we are here is some sign that we are willing to let God’s seed grow in us. Sometimes we know we are not good soil for God’s Word so we have to ask for forgiveness. 

GOSPEL: MATHEW 13: 1 – 9

On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore. And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear.”

INTRODUCTION:

If you want to achieve something in life, you need to be a hard and powerful person. This is what many people say. But, it is not what Christ says. He praised the humble. And he was a humble, gentle person himself. We are his disciples. We have promised that we will follow his way. But we have not always done so and therefore we need to ask for God’s pardon and forgiveness. 

GOSPEL: MATHEW 11: 25 – 30

At that time Jesus exclaimed: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.” “Come to me, all you who labour and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

GREETINGS TO ALL PARISHIONERS FROM FR MAREK

13th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME. YEAR A

INTRODUCTION:

Who are we, now assembled in this holy place we are the disciples of Christ. To be a disciple of Christ means to be with him, learn from him, to be sent out by him. All this we tried during this past week. Now we have assembled to show our unity with Jesus and with each other. Christ says, “Who welcomes you, welcomes me.” He is one with us. Have we always been aware that Jesus is with us?

GOSPEL: MATHEW 10: 37 – 42

Jesus said to his apostles: “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. “Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because the little one is a disciple— amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.”

PRAYING OF THE ROSARY BEFORE MASS

On Sundays praying of the Rosary will be from 7:00 am until 7:30 and will be followed by practising of hymns for Mass.
There will be ten minutes of silence before Mass.

INTRODUCTION:

Nine times we read in the Gospel that Jesus said to his disciples, Do not be afraid.” Why did he have to repeat his so often? Is it still important for us today, to be strengthened against fear? We freely admit that we too, need to be told: do not be afraid!

GOSPEL: MATHEW 10: 26 – 33

Jesus said to the Twelve: “Fear no one. Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father.”

The collection for the 1st quarter of 2023 was RPP R3920 & St Jude R880, a total of R4 800. We sent R2400 to the Diocese & the balance of R2400 is being carried forward to the Deanery Mass Collection due in August where we need to contribute a minimum of R10000.

The 2nd quarter contribution of R2400 is due on 30 June 2023.

The Young Adults Group would like to say thank you to the parents who allowed their kids to celebrate Youth Day with us. It was an awesome day with lots of laughter and fun.

SVDP and CWA Groups would also like to thank the Parishioners for their support on the sales they had on the previous weekends. Profits were made and they are very grateful.

SOLEMNITY OF THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

INTRODUCTION:

It is good to ask ourselves the following questions: why did we come to church? Why are we, Christians? There may be many reasons. Perhaps our parents brought us to church, we feel happy when we are in church or we won’t help fro
God. However, the fundamental reason that we are here today is that God has chosen us. He has called us to his alter. Jesus called his twelve Apostles in a way, but he has chosen and called each one of us as well. He has chosen us to be his beloved people; a kingdom of priests.

GOSPEL: JOHN 6: 51 – 58

At the sight of the crowds, Jesus’ heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the labourers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out labourers for his harvest.” Then he summoned
his twelve disciples and gave them authority over
unclean spirits to drive them out and to cure every
disease and every illness. The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus; Simon from Cana, and Judas Iscariot
who betrayed him. Jesus sent out these twelve after instructing them thus, “Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town. Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, and drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost, you are to give.”
